“Can you tell me a bit about your practice?”

This week, like many law firms in Toronto, Fasken participated in the annual 2L student recruitment process. I had the opportunity to meet many wonderful students, all with impressive backgrounds and bright futures ahead. I was asked by many of the students about my practice, and what I enjoyed most about estate planning. It was a great opportunity to reflect on what I love about my work. I thought I….

New Arrival, New Will

Earlier this week, our group gathered to celebrate our colleague’s impending arrival of a new baby. It was a delightful occasion, with cake, presents, and well-wishes. A recent criminal case featuring a fraudulent Will made front-page news, and serves as a reminder of what a powerful document a Will is, the need to carefully plan and safeguard against fraudsters, and the risks inherent in estates law. Last month, Robert Konashewych, a Toronto police officer, and….

Wedding Season is Here: The Impact of Marriage on Estate Planning

As we turn the corner from winter to spring, we also enter into another important time of year: wedding season. With the start of this season, estate planners should remind themselves, and their clients, of a few of the critical intersections between family law and estate law that specifically impact married (as opposed to cohabiting) couples: As of January 2022, following the passage of the Accelerating Access to Justice Act,….
