Yesterday I watched the US Open and thought about my dad.

Yesterday was Father’s Day. Signs, announcements and broadcasters made it very difficult not to acknowledge the day. Is it not odd that we need to be reminded by those organizations that typically want us to purchase something? Well maybe we do need to be reminded to spend a moment either with our fathers, if we still have one or to spend some time thinking about our fathers, for the rest….

Family time, less than it used to be…..

Recently I had the pleasure of taking a vacation with my mother and husband. As it turned out, it was a family oriented resort which put us in the middle of young parents and young children. Now while several of our friends have grandchildren, my boys are not there yet.  So…..we spent several days enjoying inter generational families  (grandparents and grandchildren) enjoying each other’s company. This ‘family time’ reminded me….

Another New Year. Another New Start

Today is the first day of the Jewish New Year, another fresh start for those who celebrate. For many who may not attend synagogue, it may still be recognized and celebrated with family sitting down together for a festive dinner. Traditions continue and are past down from generation to generation. For some it is a favorite recipe that has been shared. For those with dementia, familiar food, song and stories….
