Have you had the conversation yet?

It seems as though my last few blogs have all started off with a report on COVID-19 in Long Term Care residences and the number of residents who have died. As of Sunday, May 2, 2020 there are now 170 long term care residences which have outbreaks and 954 confirmed deaths, up from 654. One Conversation Can Make All The Difference

Last week I shared that as of April 19, 2020, there were 112 long-term care homes in Ontario  impacted by COVID-19 outbreaks and as of April 26, there are now 147 facilities affected with 654 confirmed resident deaths. Families celebrated together – emotionally, spiritually and maybe even in song- while remaining….

Caring for our Seniors- in very difficult and unusual times

Receiving Jacob’s blog yesterday (on Sunday) reaffirmed that these are not normal times. I thought maybe I had missed a whole day …   While we are all being asked (?) to stay at home, many of our colleagues are on the front lines working day and night to keep us safe. There is no denying that we are concerned about the welfare of our seniors. Dr. Samir Sinha, director of….

Elder Care, In the News

Here’s hoping for a Happy Monday.

It is hard to focus on anything outside of the current state of affairs and mounting challenges  as a result of Covid. Everyone’s lives are impacted at some level, so today’s blog discusses a few elder care concerns I am seeing. Most recently I have read that the Ontario government is making changes to long term care homes through a temporary emergency order which is supposed to assist with staffing.  The….
