Long Term Care

You Are No Longer Welcome Here

I recently had a very negative experience with the administration of one of the Long Term Care residences where our client  has resided over the last four years.   The PSW’s from a reputable home care company were told that they were no longer welcome  in this facility.  While I am not going to go into the particular details, suffice to say that  telling paid caregivers who have been providing excellent….

Whose Fault is it Anyway?

This weekend,  I put down the latest Brandon Sanderson book so that I could read  ‘A Perfect Storm: The COVID-19 Experience for Revera and the Long Term Care Sector’ which is a report completed by an independent expert advisory panel. I have blogged about the Crisis In Long Term Care  over the years and all of these pre Covid issues- really did create the perfect storm. The panel, which was….

Definition of (Essential) Family Caregiver

While we are still learning how best to live under the threat of either spreading or catching Covid, our long term care facilities are starting to also figure this out.  See: https://allaboutestates.ca/family-essential-visitors/ With  80% of all COVID deaths having occurred in LTC facilities, this is definitely too late for many families. This number is staggering. What I do understand is that many of these individuals are dying without their families close by.  What I am not sure about is how many had advance….

And the losers are Long Term Care patients

As of Sunday, 112 long-term care homes in Ontario are grappling with COVID-19 outbreaks and the number is still growing. From the 553 deaths (as reported on Sunday April 19 9:35 am), 240 were residents of long- term care homes.  Shockingly, four residences have reported more than 20 deaths each and at the time of writing of this blog, include: Pinecrest Nursing Home in Bobcaygeon: 29 deaths Eatonville Care Centre….
